Soil Mineral Nitrogen Sampling

Nitrogen sampling is becoming more popular as a management tool  especially as winter weather seems to be more variable and our  understanding of the results improves.

NVZ Restrictions are probably going to become more onerous and justifying  application policies is important from a Cross-Compliance, Farm Assurance,  and environmental point of view. In addition Nitrogen fertiliser prices are rising  ever higher.

The best way to assess your soil status is to take some soil mineral nitrogen  samples. The sampling is more expensive than a simple soil test and so it would  not be necessary to sample every field. However, across an arable farm perhaps  a few samples on different soil types and at different places in the  rotation could help fine tune your Nitrogen applications.

It is useful management data to build up a picture of soil nitrogen from season to season. Start to undertake sampling now so if, in say five years time, application restrictions tighten, a number of years data is already available on your farm to justify your practice.

The procedures for sampling and handling samples are of the utmost  importance.

We will take care of the whole procedure for you. We will sample,  refrigerate, despatch, and report back to you and discuss the likely  implications of the results.

Why not call to discuss how Nitrogen sampling can help your plans this spring?

How it works:

  • - We discuss with you and/or your agronomist the best sampling strategy
  • - We take the samples to either 60 or 90cm depth depending on your soil   following the correct proceedures and ensure they are cooled immediately
  • - We then dispatch the samples to an independent laboratory
  • - After a maximum of 14 days we then email or post your results to you and   discuss the implications
